Swim with the Penguins at Outernet, Europe’s Largest LED Screen

London Zoo wanted to make a splash for the summer holidays. Convincing key audience segments – families and tourists – to make it a destination.

They needed to do something bold, exciting and innovative to stand out. So they approached Circus to capture one of their most popular attractions – Penguin Beach – in a new way. And turn it into an immersive public experience at the iconic Outernet – the largest 360 screen in Europe at four storeys high, attracting over 6 million visitors annually.

The zoo had never before attempted to film or record sounds from these charismatic Humboldt Penguins underwater. And Outernet had never showcased real-world 360 video before, because it was thought that it couldn’t be produced at the huge 18K resolution the screens required.

KFC VR Restaurant of the Future

Welcome to 2050!

We were delighted to be brought in by design agency I-AM to collaborate on producing a virtual reality (VR) experience for their client KFC. This mind-blowing project envisions a ‘KFC of the future’ venue, free from the constraints of current technology, operational and physical limitations.

I-AM had been commissioned by KFC’s Global design unit to imagine, design and CGI-model, a fully developed design proposal for a KFC destination with ideas too far ahead to actually ‘build’. Instead existing in virtual space as a guiding light for ongoing progressive initiatives across global design, operations and service

All this was brought to life as a showcase to the business internally and for key international franchisee partners through a fully immersive virtual reality experience delivered via high-end VR headsets. Within the experience, users can take a birds-eye view of the venue and choose which part to explore. They are then taken on a journey through that area, narrated by an AI-style audio guide and enhanced with a heads-up display to call out key features and innovations. This virtual tour of an imagined reality provides an inspiring direction to keep KFC a step ahead of its ever-proliferating competitors.

BBC – California Academy of Sciences Green Building Virtual Tour

BBC’s Storyworks division specialises in telling stories online, through high-end innovative web content. Their latest challenge was to bring to life examples of sustainable architecture from around the world for the World Green Buildings Council. All as part of a drive to raise awareness of how thoughtful construction can contribute to the fight against climate change.

They approached Circus to create the first piece of immersive 360 content for the BBC site – an interactive virtual tour through the famous California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.

Testimonials

“Over the past 12 months plus, the fantastic team at Circus 360 have been incredibly generous with their time and support of our interactive 360° learning resource for the NHS, made by the team here at Guy’s Cancer Academy. With their support, we’ve planned, captured, and packaged up a scenario that allows students to navigate through a hospital environment, assess patients, answer multiple choice questions and be marked on their progress. We approached Circus at the beginning of this projects conception, and they’ve been there throughout to assist us as part of their “Circus gives back” initiative, including on the shoot day. We couldn’t be more thrilled with your enthusiasm and kindness throughout this project, your willingness to share technical and practical advice has been invaluable.”
– Will Green, Guys Cancer Academy, Google review

“We had a really positive experience working with Jay and his team at Circus. We wanted to overhaul our current virtual tour and Circus took the time to understand our complex requirements and suggest a modern and distinctive approach to meet the needs of our diverse markets. From the initial concept, front-end UX and back-end technical solutions, Circus were highly knowledgeable, professional and easy to work with throughout the 12-month project. Our new Virtual Experience has been a big hit internally, as well as adding real value to our prospective students and enhancing our positioning of Kent as a forward-thinking university, embracing new technology and approaches. Many thanks to Circus! from the team at the University of Kent.”
– Sam Charman, Kent Uni, Google review

“CIRCUS successfully created the VR tour with additional access features and audio options. The team demonstrated responsiveness in addressing requests and holding meetings when necessary. Above all, they were professional, easy to work with, and supportive throughout the collaboration.”
– English Heritage, Clutch review

“Through researching different vendors, we found CIRCUS online and what made them stand out was their online presence, and great examples of similar work they had created in the past. Following our initial call with the team, we could see they already understood the idea and what we wanted to do with the campaign. We worked closely with CIRCUS to discuss what the project would look like, and they understood our vision very quickly. They developed the exhibition space, suggested content that we should create to enhance the experience of attendees, and delivered the final product on the date we asked. Although the project has not yet launched, our client is extremely pleased with the outcome, and we look forward to building on what has been developed over the next few months. CIRCUS communicated really well with us and kept us in the loop with timings regularly. They met all deadlines they set for themselves, and those that we set, and were honest and open with any concerns / further ideas they had during the development of the exhibition. They are really professional in terms of their correspondence with us and presentations to our clients. They really understood our brief, as the design space they developed was spot on. Sometimes different versions of documents would get lost in the email traffic, and on both ends, creating a more streamlined process for version control would’ve been helpful.”
