Use Cases

Diabetic Retinopathy Module (DRM)

Objective: Create an immersive and engaging experience for people who have or at risk to get diabetic retinopathy (blindness caused by Diabetes). The product also needs to be simple enough that everyone from elders to teenagers can use without issue. The product must also visually show what blindness of differing levels of disease actually looks like.

Solution: Using realistic and relatable environments, the user is guided in VR by a voice that explains the effects of the disease and how to prevent it. The controls are very simple and intuitive. The app was made for mobile VR using an inexpensive Quest 2 headset to make scaling of this tool as easy as possible.

Results: After the initial development, a study was conducted by the University of Alberta on the efficacy of this type of treatment for the education of patients and the likelihood that they will follow up with their doctor to prevent the disease. The study will soon be publicly published.

Hardware deployment: Oculus Quest 2

Elevate Aviation See It Be It VR

Objective: The client wanted a modern and head-turning way to show the benefits, variety and perks of careers in aviation to young women ages 16 to 24. The client had an idea of what they wanted, and we provided our expertise and guidance to get the best product concept possible while achieving their goals in ways they could not imagine. The client also needed a whole package to take to trade shows and classrooms to get the maximum impact possible.

Solution: We produced an 8.5 minute experience, completely scripted based on the real career experiences of 5 women in Canadian aviation, from their beginnings to their current job. We hired voice actors to voice the parts and made a robust animation pipeline to bring these real people to life and show their story in ways not possible in any other way than VR. We also provided them with branded headsets and cases to take on their roadshows, wrote manuals on the operation for the roadshow staff and provided client support after the handoff.

Results: Initial deployment is underway now, but they do around 15 tradeshows a year and have several cohorts of women in their classes that will use it. We expect thousands of new users per year with this setup and we expect it to serve them for years to come, brining women into careers in aviation.

Hardware deployment: Oculus Quest 2

ChiroGrafix Virtual Reality

Objective: Utilizing VR’s proven engagement characteristics, create a unique immersive learning experience for chiropractic patients to understand succinctly what’s going on with their skeletal/muscular system based on the practitioner’s Report of Findings.

Concept: Upon evaluation, the patient puts on the headset and immediately become immersed in a virtual environment where they are presented a representation of their spine (body) highlighting problem areas. Intuitive slider controls were created to adjust diagnostic indicators such as vertebra position, swelling, localized and generalized spasms, as well as levels of referred or radiated pain.

Hardware deployment: Oculus Rift S, Oculus Quest, iPad
