Visionary Training Resources

As part of our initiative to enhance our crewmembers' training experience, we are leveraging the power of VR technology. The FlightDeckToGo tool will deliver an immersive and highly effective training experience. The realistic simulation offered by VTR's technology coupled with the eye tracking feature, will allow Atlas pilots to familiarize themselves with the aircraft cockpit while providing an intuitive experience in becoming proficient in their flows and procedures.

VTR's virtual reality headsets and handsets will enhance our current training program for the more than 200 pilots we're hiring annually by enabling them to familiarize themselves with our aircraft's cockpit using a realistic simulation. CommuteAir trainees will practice flight deck orientation, flows, and procedures with the assistance of the VTR's virtual instructor and eye-tracking features.

The integration of eye tracking and the ability to interact with flight deck controls through the use of wireless handheld controllers makes FlightDeckToGo far superior to others that we have used here at Florida Tech. The VTR headset is also completely portable and doesn't need to be tethered to a high-powered gaming laptop or desktop computer. This means that it can be easily used in any one of our classrooms or labs.

While immersed in the virtual flight deck, students will be trained and evaluated on their knowledge of aircraft systems and procedures while experiencing all the realistic issues, distractions, and additive conditions that come with being a professional pilot. They will be tasked with applying their systems knowledge and managing normal flight deck tasks while assessing and mitigating risk using all available resources, simulating the type of training they'll receive in a professional airline training course. The VR is a realistic simulation that will both challenge and train the students. VR is the future of education and training, and I'm looking forward to using this tool in my class as a baseline to expand to other courses.
