DECOMMISSIONED: SOCIAL GAMEPLAY
Meta, formerly Facebook enlisted Gravity Jack as a strategic partner to help them develop the future of social gameplay leveraging virtual reality technology. Giving Gravity Jack full creative control over the concept, our team conceptualized and developed a multiplayer (up to 8 live players at once!) VR game that takes place on a space station on Mars. Amongst the players, there is a traitor(s) who is trying to delay the necessary evacuation of Mars by sabotaging group missions within the space station. After a timed mission, the players meet back at headquarters to discuss and ultimately vote on who they think the traitor is. If all the players can identify and agree on the traitor the game ends If not, the players must go back out on a new mission — giving the traitor more time to sabotage the station.
Gravity Jack developed this for the Oculus Quest VR headset and incorporated realistic avatars and hand-tracking functionality into the gameplay. Aside from coding alongside the Meta developers, what made this project truly unique is that Gravity Jack used the Unity platform to create an open-sourced code base that encourages other developers to reference, pull snippets from, or even add to for their own projects.
SIMSAFE VR FIRE EXTINGUISHER TRAINING
The SimSafe virtual reality application provides a realistic, immersive, yet safe training environment that allows users young or old to extinguish common household fires using proper techniques. Within the VR environment, users are trained to deploy the tried and true P.A.S.S. (pull, aim, squeeze, sweep) technique while wearing a VIVE PRO VR headset and controllers. Once the training is complete, users are tasked with extinguishing a simulated fire on their own.
As the user extinguishes the fire on a stovetop or in a trash can, the app tracks: the user’s motions, the time it takes them to extinguish the fire, and even calculates how much of the extinguisher they used to put the fire out. All of the data is calculated to provide the user with an overall score. The completion of the project resulted in a comprehensive training experience that can be purchased and shipped to fire departments, schools, and office buildings across the country!
On-demand, step-by-step instructions are the future of Augmented Reality’s capabilities. In a partnership with T-Mobile, Gravity Jack developed an application that unlocks these capabilities to showcase T-Mobile’s ultra-fast 5G network. Equipped with an iPad, users scan a high-pressure water system that isn’t functioning properly. In real-time, the app overlays dynamic 3D animations to provide the user with instructions to walk them through the steps to make repairs to the filter, gauges, and other components.
The experience leverages Augmented Reality to point out the parts and the repair process but also shows users the correct tools needed to complete the repair. Taking the experience to the next level, the T-Mobile real-time repair application capabilities can put users on a live video conference with up to five remote repair experts. During the call, the experts can draw on the screen to guide the user with any additional repairs. With the development of this project, the future of maintenance and training is here and happening.
Testimonials
“World of Tanks AR would have been utterly impossible without Gravity Jack, full stop. It’s paramount for Wargaming Special Projects to move quickly and adapt to market conditions quickly, and working with Gravity Jack means we automatically have the toolset at our disposal to deploy iteratively, leveraging brand new never-before-used platforms with awesome partners like Google. They are an incredibly dedicated and passionate team who believes the actual mission: to make major contributions toward shaping the path that spatial computing is going to lead us down as a society. They’re extremely communicative, very quick to adapt to new conditions and make impossible deadlines seem less impossible.”
– Matt Daly, Special Projects Lead at Wargaming
“We tasked Gravity Jack to push the boundary of hardware/software limitations to bring the all-new Lincoln MKX to life. The campaign is something we are all very proud of and would not have been possible, without the dedication from the Gravity Jack team.”
– Alex Chu, Executive Creative Director & EVP, GTB
“Gravity Jack helped us build an amazing AR app. Their workflow is extremely thorough and they will walk you through every step of the process. They excel in many different ways, but the most valuable to us was their initial design phase. They have a core team that will help you get your best ideas on the table so that you can create the best experience possible.”
– Stephen Underwood, Director of Technology, Illinois Soybean Association
“Gravity Jack is a valued and trusted partner to our organization, consistently delivering exceptional work on tight timelines. The talent of the team is evident through the quality of their deliverables. We look forward to continue working with them in the future.”
– Lee Dash, VP, User Experience, ApotheCom
“Our team at Regrid had an amazing experience working with Gravity Jack. For us, it started with curiosity about whether our nationwide land and property dataset could be viewed and interacted with in AR. A knowledgeable friend recommended we contact GJ and I’m very glad they did. From the first exploratory conversation through project scoping and execution, the GJ team was great to work with at all levels: company leadership; project managers; and hands-on designers and engineers. They took the time to listen, understand, and get excited about our unique business and AR opportunity. More than that, they executed beautifully.
A few things that stand out to me:
- The weekly project meetings were always something to look forward to — progress, organization, and enthusiasm
- I never felt lost in the process or timeline or budget
- The collaboration, communication, and design were outstanding
- There were always exciting updates we could feel and use and feedback on throughout the project
At the end of the project, everything was perfectly wrapped up as a deliverable and the door felt wide open for more anytime. I highly recommend working with them.”
– Jerry Paffendorf, CEO, Regrid
“Gravity Jack was instrumental in the conception, creation, and delivery of a never-before-seen experiential conference booth project. The booth mechanics were very complex and involved setting up some pretty intricate technologies as well as developing an iPad app and back-end server that would run the booth game scenarios seamlessly (all of which needed to work internationally, I might add). The entire Gravity Jack team’s creativity is astonishing, they surfaced ideas that we would have never thought of and executed them from testing to a finished product. It was a pleasure to work with Gravity Jack and their communicative team and I would entrust them with any future project where we wanted the end result to be a “wow!”
