The number of individuals aged 65+ is projected to double from 703 million in 2019 to 1.5 billion globally by 2050. Coinciding with this growing and ageing population, there will be a substantial increase in ageing related illnesses such as dementia, other cognitive impairments and disabilities from strokes. In response to this expected growth, there will be an increasing demand for well-trained caregivers (formal and informal).

To address this Kaleidoscope XR has developed Caregiver VR, a digital platform which facilitates practical hands-on soft-skills and dementia empathy training for front-line healthcare professionals. The platform does this by enabling classroom and standardized patient simulations between educators and trainees (up to 20 per classroom) from any location globally through Virtual Reality and desktop computers. Trainees are able to role-play and collaborate as caregivers and residents and practice communication skills, learn to deal with difficult patient scenarios, and build empathy for patients by viewing the world from the perspective of those that have cognitive impairments and brain injury.
