Use Cases

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Staff Simulation Training – Building empathy through immersion.

We’re thrilled to partner with Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, a UK eye care leader with 700,000+ patient contacts. Recognising the power of immersive VR training they approached Flix after our Palliative Care Conference presentation in Rome. Together, we’ve crafted authentic patient-perspective simulations, letting staff see through their patients’ eyes. Enhancing skills and enriching patient care, we’re supporting Moorfields’ mission for exceptional healthcare.

Goals & Outcomes
Moorfields sought to enhance staff confidence and competence in the care of patients with eye conditions while expanding the reach of their training programs. Through insightful interviews and workshops, we crafted VR simulations mirroring real patient experiences enriched with filters for authentic immersion.

Staff actively participated guided by the ‘WHO’ checklist. Scenarios, portraying good and poor practices from a patient’s viewpoint offered valuable learning opportunities, promoting reflection, and driving more positive outcomes for their real-world patients.

Delivery
Moorfields are currently utilising ArborXR platform to pilot their simulations across multiple sites and will be soon integrating them into mandatory training for new staff across the trust.

Designed for multiple high-performance headsets, the modules can be controlled by an off-sight facilitator, offering an exceptionally high-quality and truly immersive experiences beyond the training room.

HMP Whitemoor Officer VR Simulation Training

HMP Whitemoor is a category A prison which oversees 500 individuals and is dedicated to staff well-being and growth. After seeing our work on a BBC 1, Inside Out documentary on VR for healthcare they asked us to develop a comprehensive training package focused on prison officer training, specifically addressing prisoner intimidation tactics.

Goals & Outcomes
The project aimed to reduce staff turnover and enhance officer training to effectively handle intimidation threats from inmates, boosting confidence and fostering positive real-world outcomes.

After interviews with prisoners and officers we recommended incorporating a cell search scenario from the prisoner perspective, ensuring a holistic experience for dedicated staff. Our prison immersion provided profound insights into diverse situations, emotions, and an authentic filming environment.

Delivery
It was crucial for HMP Whitemoor to offer secure, easily accessible, singular experiences for their staff.

Typically, these types of training simulations are limited to a single staff member at any one time. Our delivery solution allows a trainer to broadcast each experience for all staff members simultaneously. This service also allows the trainer to monitor usage and behaviour.

Newcross Healthcare Solutions
Immersive staff training on autism

We are delighted to have partnered with Newcross Healthcare Solutions, one of the UK’s largest private healthcare agencies, employing 165,000 nurses and carers. After our successful 2D training films on medical emergencies, Newcross approached us to craft innovative VR simulations for more engaging and immersive staff training on autism.

Goals & Outcomes
Aligned with Newcross’ innovation commitment, our project aimed to elevate training and boost staff confidence in caring for individuals with autism. Crafted 360° films, based on workshop insights, highlighted the impact of body language. Newcross remotely approved our actors’ VR auditions, showcasing our collaborative approach. Unique features enabled staff to switch perspectives, fostering reflection, enhancing skills for more empathetic care. Ultimately, improving well-being and confidence.

Delivery
Ensuring flexibility, Newcross wanted to deliver interactive VR simulations for independent or group training, facilitating shared experiences and discussions among staff. Accessibility was paramount, with VR tools available on various devices through an online e-learning platform. This platform not only provides crucial data for refining future training but is also accessible to clients, promoting a comprehensive and inclusive training approach.
